This is an Imperial Class Star Destroyer, one of the Empire's key weapons in the domination of the galaxy.  There are two classes of Star Destroyers: Victory and Imperial.  They are classified by size respectively.  The Imperial Class Star Destoyer has thousands of turbolaser batteries and ion cannons.  It has has tractor beam projectors, an entire division of stormtroopers, 20 AT-AT's, and 30 At-ST's for ground based combat.  They have appeared in all three of the original Star Wars movies but weren't invented yet in Episode I.
