The TIE Interceptor is definitely a superior fighter to the original TIE Fghter.  It can almost match an A-Wing in speed and is a much more formidable foe to the Rebels.  It was developed from the Advanced X1 Prototype that Darth Vader used at the Battle of Yavin.  The solar panels on the side are dagger shape to provide greater visibility to the side and to make the ship more intimidating.  It has four laser cannons that can be single fire, dual-linked, or quad-linked.  Like all TIE fighters, the TIE Interceptor has no shielding or hyperdrive.  Pilots must rely on their skill and the TIE Interceptors great manueverablilty to survive.  The TIE Interceptor has appeared in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
